LED Display using RGB LED strip

Neopixel or Programmable RGB LED strip are individually addressable LED’s control by WS2811, WS2812 IC’s and control by a single wire. Here I am sharing my work. How I make a scrolling text display using ws2812b led strip and Arduino UNO. You can make any matrix size, as an example I making an 8*11 matrix.

Material Required

1.Neopixel led strip
2.Arduino UNO1
3.Soldering iron1
4.Soldering wire
6.cardboard sheet1

Display Making

We are going to make an 8*11 matrix. It means 8 led in one row and a total of 11 rows we need. So cut pixel lights, each strip has 8 LED’s(cut from the middle of copper are )

RGB LED strip light has Arrow’s which Show IN and OUT. Keep this in mind and paste the pixel Showing opposite faces. According to the following image.

Solder Do to next Din As show in the following image. Also connect every GND and every 5v. As show in the following image.

Your display is now ready. The final output look like this.

Arduino pin no. 5 will connect to DIN of strip. Strip GND and +5V will connect Arduino GND and 5V. As shown in the following schematics.

Open Arduino IDE we need FastLED library to work with this adafruit neopixel. To install this library go to Sketch>Include library>Manage library Or press Ctrl+shift+I.

A new window will popup in search bar type FastLED and press enter. Install the first library.


After installation of the library we will run an example code. Go to File>Examples>FastLED>Noise.

Select the Board, COM port and upload the code. This library have amazing animations you should try all.

Scrolling Text

These RGB LED strips to have no boundaries. I write code for scrolling text where you can display your message in any color. Using these RGB LED Strip I made an artwork (Shadow me).
